Writing Critically

Universities throughout the USA require writing courses as a part of the core curriculum. However, there are three problems with the ways in which departments that are charged with the task of teaching writing approach the opportunity. First, a deficit model approach is typically used in writing primers. Second, most books fail to offer a variety of writing in the genres for the disciplines. Third, most books offer general instruction and do not personalize it to a student’s intended professional interests. 

 

 

1) To provide a new approach to writing instruction; 

2) To provide purposeful attention to a variety of genres; 

3) To provide writing instruction for the disciplines.
